Each year sections of every Government School community are surveyed and their responses are tabulated to provide feedback to schools and the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
Student Attitudes to School Survey
This survey is completed by all Year 5 and 6 students. The Attitudes to School survey is to assist schools to gain an understanding of students’ perceptions and their experience of school. The survey will provide schools with valuable data on students’ view of their wellbeing, school in general and teaching and learning.
Staff Opinion Survey
This survey provides an opportunity for teaching and non-teaching staff to express their views about what works well in our school and what could be done better to improve the working environment for all staff members and ultimately, to further improve the outcomes for students.
Parent Opinion Survey
This survey is to ascertain the opinion of parents as to how well the school is meeting the needs of students. It is completed by approximately forty randomly-selected families.
The surveys are made up of a number of related variables, each including a number of statements about performance in that particular area. All involved are asked to respond to each statement on a scale that ranges from ‘strongly disagree’ to ‘strongly agree’. The higher the average for each statement, the higher and more positive the variable result will be.
The staff and parent surveys show which quartile our school fits into when compared to other schools across the state. It is our aim to have as many variables as possible fall in the Fourth Quartile, which means that our results would be ranked in the top 25% of all Government Schools in the state.
First Quartile | 0% to 25% |
Second Quartile | 25% to 50% |
Third Quartile | 50% to 75% |
Fourth Quartile | 75% to 100% |
Schools are now encouraged to look at improving their individual mean in each variable, rather than comparing their result against other schools, but at the same time it is always inviting to see in which quartile we are placed.
The staff survey has been marked against another scale. It is pleasing to see that our school rates higher than the state average in all variables.
